Fair Hills Farm
The Coop
Amanda Read

When we bought our first flock of
chicks - 15 Red Star pullets - we
housed them in the portable Henspa
coop purchased from Egganic
Industries.

We appreciated the henspa design
because it provided efficiency,
security, cleanliness and general nice
appearance.

At the time we still lived in town and
had a large, unfenced yard.  The smell
of our chickens never got bad,
because the coop was moved daily
(occasionally twice daily if it was really
muddy or anything like that).

I have always made sure that the nest
box and roosts stay clean by simply
scraping droppings away with a small
garden spade when necessary.
Our first coop (a henspa) - and our first flock of laying hens (Red Stars)
Our second coop - an 8' x 8' storage building with a vent and back window. We painted it with a dark brown
stain and green trim.  It is fenced with a Premier 1 portable fence that we have rearranged many times.
